REIGNING Namibia Premier League Champions Black Africa will face arch-rivals Orlando Pirates on the opening day of the 2012/2013 season scheduled for 22 September.
The Namibia Premier League this week held a draw for the new season and it emerged that back-to-back MTC Premiership champions Black Africa would host Orlando Pirates in their quest to retain the premiership title once again.
On the opening day of the season, Sport Klub Windhoek (SKW) will also welcome nemesis Ramblers to the SKW Stadium.
Mighty Gunners will host Tigers at Otjiwarongo; Civics visits Eleven Arrows and newly promoted Tura Magic takes on Blue Waters while African Stars also play host to another new kid on the block, Rundu Chiefs.
According to the provisional 2012/1013 league fixtures, an NPL League Cup will start on 15 September and there is also provision for an NPL Knockout Cup set for 12 January 2013 as well as the NFA Cup.
After the meeting of the Board of Governors of the Namibia Premier league on 1 September 2012 they will confirm the provisional dates for these cup competitions, including the NFA Cup, which did not take place last season, as well as the venues and times.
Mabos Vries of the NPL said the league will continue making strides that it can be proud of and become the best production line for Namibian footballers than can shine in the national teams as well as playing aboard.
The annual increase on the new season’s budget will be revealed at the annual League season launch which is to be done after the NPL meeting on 1 September.
The Premier league budget has increased from N$7.7 million during the 2009/2010 season to N$10.6 million in the 2011/2012 season and have also seen a significant increase in direct supports to NPL clubs from N$300,000 to N$511,111 from 2010 to 2012, stated Vries.
