Govt asks employers to pay tax refunds

02 July 2013 Author   Staff Reporter

front Govt 02 julyTHE Ministry of Finance has called on employers to follow the Government’s example by refunding their employees for the excess tax paid from March to June 2013 and then offset these amounts from their future tax amount due to the Receiver of Revenue.

The Ministry refunded public servants with bank accounts today (Tuesday).

Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Finance Ericah Shafudah said that Government employees without bank accounts would receive their refund cheques through their respective ministries.

The refunds come as part of a reduction in income tax rates announced earlier this year by the Minister of Finance, Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila, during her budget speech.

Shafudah said that supplementary income excess tax refunds for fringe benefits and overtime for civil servants would be processed and paid out at the end of August.

The Permanent Secretary called on taxpayers “to make use of this tax relief in an optimal way through spending wisely and saving for rainy days”.
