President Hage Geingob has joined the nation in mourning the late New Era Associate Editor, Desie Heita, who died in the early hours of Thursday after a freakish accident.
Heita is reported to have died after a gate at his house fell on top of him.
The president said in a statement that Heita had contributed to the growth of the media landscape in Namibia.
“Without Mr Heita, the media landscape has lost a diligent and committed journalist,” President Geingob said before extending his sincere sympathies to the bereaved family, friends and colleagues of the late Heita.
New Era said in a statement that at the time of his death, Heita, who has been with the Corporation for 10 years, was an associate editor assigned to the weekly Kundana newspaper and manning the New Era business desk.
“Desie had been a valued member of our team since joining us in 2008 and his work has touched lives across the width and breadth of our nation. We wish his family strength during this difficult time,” NEPC CEO, Dr Audrin Mathe, said.
