For some people, the idea of doing this is irritating, because why should you make yourself think of something that is so out of reach?
You could sell your organs and limbs on the black market and still not have enough money to afford a decent vacation, right?
Margareth Gonzalez Garcia, the mastermind behind Flamingo Holiday and Travel Bureau, has worked her fingers to the bone to prove that your holiday destination does not have to cost an arm and a leg – or even your organs.
The self-titled King of Packages has worked in the travel industry for over 17 years, having previously worked for Air Namibia.
There, she ran the national airline’s in-house travel agency, travelling all over the world to gain firsthand experience of the different places before including them in her packages.
Various other agencies around the world in turn bought the packages.
“After 17 years in the industry, I knew I had enough experience to venture out on my own,” she said, before she quipped that it was the best decision she has ever made.
When she initially started her agency in 2012, she ran it from home before she moved it to the first floor of Hidas Centre in September last year.
“I have aviation experience – not to mention the fact that I know key people in the industry all over the world,” Garcia said.
She feels her background sets her agency apart from the rest because most travel agents in the industry do not have airline experience.
Garcia’s agency is not only the epitome of Black Economic Empowerment (BEE) as she points out, but also promotes youth empowerment.
“I believe that knowledge is the golden key that opens the doors to opportunity, which is why I send my employees on educational trips and workshops.
“I want them to become knowledgeable because it also benefits the client,” she explained. The agency employs four staff members, one of whom is on a year-long training workshop.
Flamingo Holiday and Travel Bureau creates entire packages for their clients, from booking flight tickets right up to accommodation and activities during the trip.
They make it a point to make themselves available to their customers 24/7 – even those who travel overseas – and all they need to do is call Garcia or one of her staff members and they will solve the problem.
The agency has three types of packages. They have tailor-made packages where the client specifies what they want for their holiday and the agency creates it around their specifications.
The second is the standard package which is pre-existing and ideal for all their clients or prospective clients.
The third is the escorted or guided package were clients can view the scenic Etosha National park or explore the concrete jungle and its townships.
The agency is currently promoting three special packages centred on events. The first is for the 16th Cape Town International Jazz Festival. The festival takes place on Friday 27 March and Saturday, 28 March.
Internationally acclaimed artists such as Amel Larrieux (USA), Basia Trzetrzelewska (UK/POLAND), and Beatenberg (SA) will perform at the festival.
The package includes return flight tickets from Windhoek to Cape Town, two nights’ accommodation at a B&B, a group car hire and festival weekend pass tickets, for the affordable price of N$7959.00 per person sharing.
Grammy Award winning musician Chris Brown will be in South Africa again this year at the beginning of April.
He begins his tour at the Coca-cola Dome in Johannesburg on 2 April and moves on to the Moses Mabhida People’s Park in Durban on Saturday, 4 April 2015.
The package includes return flight from Windhoek to Johannesburg, a group car rental, two nights stay at a B&B and Golden Circle tickets, all for only N$ 7,806.00 per person sharing.
