THE European Union National Institutes for Culture (EUNIC) will host a film festival in Windhoek from 4 to 10 August.

EUNIC will screen up to 14 different films during the festival at three venues including the Diogo Cão Language Centre at the International School in Pionierspark, the Franco-Namibian Cultural Centre (FNCC) and Goethe Zentrum Windhoek. This year, representatives from 12 European countries chose the best films or documentaries under the theme “Somewhere Else: Searching for a Home”.

Each of the films under this theme will look at the subject of integration into a new country or culture.

The organisers will officially launch the festival on Saturday 4 August at the Diogo Cão Language Centre.

The European Union Head of Delegation Ambassador Raul Fuentes Milani, EUNIC Deputy President Laure Brunel and the Portuguese Ambassador Helena Paiva will give the opening remarks at the launch.

Scheduled for screening on the night of the launch, “Hope Is Where You Least Expect to Find It” a Portuguese film by Joaquim Leitão will be the first of the 14 films audiences can enjoy.

After the opening night, two films will be screened per night from Monday to Friday.

EUNIC is a collaborative cultural network of National Institutes for Culture from EU member states which promotes European cultural diversity.

The EUNIC Namibia group, formed at the end of last year, consists of Alliance Française de la Côte and Franco Namibian Cultural Centre, the British Council, Goethe Centre/NaDS, Instituto-Camões/Diogo Cão Centre, the Finnish Embassy, the French Embassy, the German Embassy, the Spanish Embassy, the Portuguese Embassy and the British High Commission.

Entry to all screenings is free.
