State-owned tourism, hospitality and service company, Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), has appointed Dr Matthias Ngwangwama as Acting Managing Director following Tuesday’s suspension of Zelna Hengari, with immediate effect.
Hengari, who has been at the helm of NWR since February 2013, was suspended with full pay over allegations that she entered into an illegal N$43 million public private partnership agreement with Sun Karros Lifestyle Safaris for the construction of 20 glamorous tents, a restaurant, small pool and 10 campsites at NWR’s Sesriem campsite.
In a statement, NWR board chairman Ambassador Leonard Iipumbu said Dr Ngwangwama has been appointed the Acting Managing Director for the duration of the investigations against Hengari.
“Dr Ngwangwama was employed previously, as the CFO at NWR for a period of 5 years, and currently holds the position of Chief Officer: Strategy and Projects. We are confident that the company will be in good hands pending the finalisation of the investigations,” Iipumbu said.
