Former President Hifikepunye Pohamba has lashed out at SWAPO Party candidates vying for the ruling party’s top four positions over their mudslinging ahead of the elective congress currently underway in Windhoek.

“The two campaign groups that were termed Team Harambee and Team SWAPO, respectively, caused quite a lot of political confusion among SWAPO Party members,” Pohamba said.

“During your campaigns, you were not directly addressing yourself to the social and economic development issues that affect the lives of people of Namibia as SWAPO Party.

“You have not talked about the existing SWAPO Party policies and programmes; instead, you were attacking one another as if you were not comrades. You have created the impression that there is personal hatred and you completely forgot that all of you, whether you call yourself Team Harambee or Team SWAPO, belong to SWAPO.”

Pohamba said this while addressing over 700 delegates who are set to choose the party’s new leadership on Sunday.

Founding Father, Sam Nujoma, also weighed in, calling for unity, tolerance, mutual respect, collective leadership, fairness and the upholding of the party’s constitution.

“I noticed there were some shortcomings characterised by distortion of facts, blackmailing, and accusation of each other and unfair access to party delegates and distribution of resources,” Nujoma said.
