Erongo region tops Grade 12 results
Erongo is the best performing region in the country according to the 2016 Grade 12 National Senior Secondary Certificate (NSSC) examination results released by Education Minister Katrina Hanse-Himarwa on Wednesday in Windhoek.
The results also show that Otjozondjupa moved two places up from fourth in 2015 to second.
Other regions that completed the top five were Kavango East, Khomas and Ohangwena, which were placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively.
Top performing state schools were Negumbo Senior Secondary school in the Omusati region; Rev. Juuso Shikongo Senior Secondary school; Gabriel Taapopi Senior Secondary school; Otjiwarongo Secondary school and Namib high school in the Erongo region.
The NSSC ordinary level results showed the percentage of graded entries increased from 92.2 percent in 2015 to 93.3 percent in 2016.
Fulltime candidates performed much better in 2016, earning higher grades A-C, though similar at grade A* compared to the previous year.
Part-time candidates, however, performed poorly at all grade levels compared to 2015.
About 36.8 percent of the full-time candidates who wrote last year qualified for tertiary admission compared to 29.8 percent in 2015.
Hanse-Himarwa said the results have been dispatched to the country’s 14 regions and will be available as from Thursday onwards.
Although satisfied with the results, the minister urged parents to play their part and provide their children with the necessary support.
“Parents can even make appointments with the teachers and sit in during class presentations,” she said.
